Author: Evaporative Cooling Technologies – Mike Methe

This one-hour live presentation explores the history, media types, and advancements for MEP engineering applications. As data centers face rising thermal loads from AI and compute density, this session investigates evaporative cooling as an energy-efficient alternative to traditional chillers, especially in dry climates. We will compare different media types (cellulose, glass fiber, synthetic polymer), analyze key engineering tradeoffs such as pressure loss and water efficiency, and evaluate advanced systems.

The course will focus on smart misting principles and intelligent controls designed to lower compressor work, reduce water consumption, and solve common engineering challenges.

Learning Objectives

This in-person course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Trace evaporative cooling’s history and evolution.
  • Compare media technologies and engineering implications.
  • Identify design tradeoffs for MEP applications.
  • Evaluate advanced systems like Smart Cooling with controlled misting.
