Webinar: Understanding & Mitigating Hot Work Hazards

Scheduled: Not scheduled

Author: Jake Lunday

Hot work, including welding, cutting, brazing, and grinding, presents severe fire and explosion risks across nearly all industrial sectors. Since 1990, over 60 worker fatalities have resulted from hot work incidents on tanks alone.

This Live Webinar provides a critical look at the devastating consequences of inadequate hot work safety programs by examining real-world case studies from various industries, including oil and gas, food production, and wastewater treatment. By analyzing past failures, engineers can better protect their facilities and personnel from catastrophic accidents and learn how to implement life-saving interventions.

Participants will explore the U.S. Chemical Safety Board’s seven key lessons for preventing hot work disasters, including the absolute necessity of combustible gas monitoring, rigorous permit systems, and dedicated fire watches. The course also details how to establish an effective hot work safety program and reviews the critical regulatory standards governing these activities, including OSHA requirements, NFPA 51B, and API 2009.

Target Audience: This course is intended for all engineering disciplines, especially professionals who oversee facility maintenance, manage contractors, or develop safety protocols. It is highly relevant for civil, mechanical, chemical, and environmental engineers working in manufacturing, petrochemicals, water treatment, and industrial construction.

Learning Objectives
