Webinar: In Defense of Buildings
Scheduled: Monday, June 15, 2026, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm ET (10:00 pm CT / 9:00 pm MT / 8:00 pm PT)
Author: Paul Spite
Modern building security involves far more than just electronic gear, software, and guards, and it is no longer reserved for specific building types. Facilities for all purposes must now address a wide spectrum of security concerns during the design phase. Threats to building occupants range from lone individuals acting on opportunity to steal or cause harm, to perpetrators seeking notoriety, and even organized groups with advanced weaponry. Fortunately, for most potential threats, there are actionable design strategies we can implement to identify danger before it reaches us, delay entry until help arrives, or completely deny access to our facilities and occupants.
Participants will learn to understand the different types of threats that modern facilities must counter. The presentation explains how to determine various lines of defense around buildings where security measures can be effectively implemented. Attendees will explore ways to define soft targets and discover practical methods to harden them against intrusion or blast forces. Finally, the course details specific product options, such as the strategic use of bollards, to create a robust security perimeter.
Target Audience:
This course is intended for all engineering disciplines, especially professionals who design site layouts, specify exterior barriers, or develop facility safety protocols. It is highly relevant for architectural, civil, and structural engineers responsible for implementing physical security measures, blast-resistant structures, and defensive perimeter systems.
Learning Objectives
This Live Webinar course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Identify the various types of security threats that modern facilities must counter.
- Outline the various lines of defense around a building where security measures can be effectively implemented.
- Explain the various product options and applications for the use of security bollards.
- Define “soft targets” and describe practical methods to harden them against intrusion or attack.
