Webinar: Water Pollution and Control

Scheduled: Monday, July 6, 2026, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm (2:00 pm CT / 1:00 pm MT / 12:00 pm PT)

Webinar calendar pdhAuthor: M.A. Karim

Managing and mitigating water pollution requires a precise understanding of the chemical and biological mechanisms at play within aquatic ecosystems. This Live Webinar provides engineers with an in-depth exploration of water pollutants, their sources, and their overarching effects on river systems.

The course delves into the critical metrics used to assess water quality, specifically focusing on Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Participants will examine the profound effects of oxygen-demanding wastes and nutrient loading on river environments.

To translate theory into actionable engineering practice, the webinar covers laboratory measurement techniques for BOD5 and the graphical determination of BOD rate constants. Attendees will learn to derive BOD models and DO sag curve equations using first-order kinetics, working through practical problem-solving exercises to accurately model and understand the extent of water pollution.

Target Audience This course is recommended for civil engineers, environmental engineers, chemical engineers, and water treatment plant managers or operators. Additionally, this webinar is suitable for professionals across all engineering disciplines who wish to gain a broad, foundational understanding of water pollution and control while fulfilling their continuing education requirements.
