Soils and Foundations: International Building Code
This course provides engineers with an in-depth understanding of the soils and foundations provisions found within the International Building Code (IBC). It explains the code requirements governing the design and construction of foundation systems in areas not affected by scour, water pressure, or wave action. Participants will learn the essential principles behind soil evaluation, foundation design, and the integration of code-based criteria into practical engineering applications.
The course explores the investigation of subsurface conditions, excavation and grading procedures, and allowable load-bearing capacities of soils. It also covers code-compliant design methods for shallow and deep foundations, including footings, retaining walls, piles, and piers. Additional topics include waterproofing, dampproofing, and soil support systems designed to ensure structural stability and compliance with IBC standards.
Learning Objectives
This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Conduct foundation and soils investigations
