Building Code: Soil & Foundation Guidelines
This course provides professional engineers with a detailed overview of the soil and foundation provisions outlined in the International Building Code (IBC). It focuses on the essential requirements for designing, analyzing, and constructing building foundation systems in areas not affected by scour, water pressure, or wave action. Engineers will gain a thorough understanding of the code standards governing soil investigations, foundation design, and the evaluation of subsurface conditions.
The course covers foundational design practices and code-compliant requirements for various foundation and soil support systems. Key topics include site investigations, excavation and grading procedures, allowable soil bearing capacities, and design approaches for shallow and deep foundations. It also addresses critical issues such as retaining wall design, waterproofing, and specialized foundation types like piles and piers, ensuring participants are well-equipped to apply these guidelines in real-world engineering projects.
