Webinar: Water Pollution and Control
Scheduled: Monday, July 6, 2026, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm (2:00 pm CT / 1:00 pm MT / 12:00 pm PT)
Author: M.A. Karim
This Live Webinar course is designed with the outlines of Introduction, Water Pollutants and Their Sources, Water Pollution in Rivers, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), Effect of Oxygen-Demanding Wastes on Rivers, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) Graphical Determination of BOD Constants, Laboratory Measurement of BOD, Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Sag Curve, Effects of Nutrients on Water Quality in Rivers. This course is suitable for civil engineers, environmental engineers, chemical engineers, water treatment plant managers and operators, and engineers with an interest in water pollution and control.
In this course we will define TMDL, BOD, COD, and DO and explain the effect of oxygen demanding wastes in water pollution. We will learn how to determine BOD5 in the laboratory, BOD reaction rate, k with graphical method. We will also derive BOD model and DO sag curve equations using first-order kinetics and solve several problems to understand the extent of water pollution.
Learning Objectives
This Live Webinar course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- identify water pollutants and their sources;
- define TMDL, BOD, & COD;
- model BOD and calculate BOD5 and BODu;
- determine BOD rate constants graphically;
- develop DO Sag Curve (Model); and
- explain the effects of nutrients on water quality in rivers
