New Jersey Engineering Ethics: Lessons from Board Disciplinary Actions
This one-hour ethics course is designed for Professional Engineers practicing in New Jersey, emphasizing their responsibility to uphold public health, safety, and welfare through ethical and compliant practice. The course explores the role of the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in regulating licensure, enforcing continuing education requirements, and investigating violations of engineering laws and ethical standards. Participants will learn how the Board handles disciplinary cases—from complaint submission to investigation, hearings, and issuance of sanctions such as reprimands, fines, probation, suspension, or license revocation.
Using real-world disciplinary case examples, the course illustrates common types of violations such as failure to maintain continuing education, practicing with an expired license, ethical misconduct, misrepresentation, and failure to cooperate with Board audits or investigations. Participants will develop practical strategies to maintain ethical integrity and regulatory compliance while strengthening their understanding of New Jersey’s rules, laws, and professional standards for engineering practice.
