Electrical Engineering
This in-depth course provides a comprehensive overview of electrical engineering design principles, with an emphasis on standards-based, safe, and sustainable facility design. It covers all aspects of the design process, from applying national codes (NFPA 70, IEEE C2) and developing project documentation, to addressing environmental and cybersecurity requirements. Detailed guidance is provided on site power distribution, interior and exterior electrical systems, lighting design, grounding, telecommunications, and special systems integration.
Engineers will gain practical insight into system analysis and documentation, including load calculations, voltage drop, short circuit analysis, arc flash evaluation, and time-current coordination studies. The course also covers critical design considerations such as cathodic protection, lightning protection, hazardous materials handling, and utility interface points. Whether designing new systems or modifying existing infrastructure, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to create complete, code-compliant electrical design packages for a variety of facility types and mission-critical installations.
Learning Objectives
This course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Apply NFPA 70, IEEE C2, and other codes to electrical system design and documentation.
- Prepare electrical design documents, including specifications, calculations, and drawings.
- Perform detailed load analysis, voltage drop, arc flash, and short circuit calculations.
- Design safe and maintainable electrical systems that support system integration and operational requirements.
- Incorporate environmental, cybersecurity, and safety engineering considerations into the design.
- Develop one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel schedules, and lighting layouts.
- Specify appropriate materials and methods for power distribution, grounding, and communication systems.
- Integrate special systems such as UPS, renewable energy, and telecommunications into facility designs.
