Basics of Wastewater Treatment

This course provides a foundational overview of wastewater treatment by focusing on pre-manufactured facilities, or “package plants,” typically used for smaller flow applications ranging from 0.01 to 0.25 MGD. It introduces the three most common types of package plant systems: extended aeration, sequencing batch reactor (SBR), and oxidation ditch. The material provides a basic understanding of the general configuration, typical uses, performance, and costs for each system.

This course is designed to equip engineers with the essential knowledge of common treatment facilities used for small communities or individual properties. You will learn the fundamental advantages, disadvantages, applicability, design criteria, and operation and maintenance requirements for each type of plant, providing a solid introduction to the principles of small-scale wastewater treatment.
