Texas Engineering Ethics: Lessons from Board Disciplinary Actions
This one-hour ethics course is tailored for Professional Engineers licensed in Texas who seek to understand their legal and ethical obligations under the Texas Engineering Practice Act and the rules of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (TBPELS). The course explains the Board’s mission to protect public health, safety, and welfare by regulating engineering practice, investigating complaints, and issuing disciplinary actions such as reprimands, fines, probation, suspension, or revocation.
Through analysis of real-world disciplinary case examples, participants will explore common violations in Texas—such as practicing with an expired license, failure to meet continuing education requirements, false certification of work, unlicensed firm practice, failure to cooperate with Board investigations, and ethical misconduct. The course also offers practical strategies to maintain compliance with Texas laws and rules, demonstrate professionalism, and uphold the highest ethical standards expected of licensed engineers in the state.
